Dr. Carolyn (Kat) Grimsley

Kat Grimsley is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She joined the faculty to help build the real estate program after serving as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Alicante in Spain in the Housing Economics and Real Estate Sector Research Group and directing the MS in Real Estate Development program at George Mason University. Dr. Grimsley began her career in the private sector doing market research, financial modeling, and transactional work with commercial real estate in the Washington, D.C. area before expanding to a national portfolio of development and acquisitions. She transitioned to a global focus managing an international portfolio for the U.S. Department of State, in which she led multidisciplinary technical teams and developed strategies for the selection and development of new diplomatic properties in more than 25 countries.
In additional to teaching and consulting, Dr. Grimsley serves as a Vice-chair of the Real Estate Market Advisory Group for the United Nation's Economic Commission for Europe (UN-ECE) Committee of Housing and Land Management, and as a Peer of the Industry Advisory Group to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO).
Dr. Grimsley holds a BS in Finance (hons; specialization in real estate investment analysis) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an MS in Real Estate from Johns Hopkins University and a PhD in Land Economics from the University of Cambridge in England.
